Travel & settling in
Once you have your visa, there is still a lot to prepare. Here are the main steps, before leaving and during your first weeks in Belgium.

Before leaving
- Book accommodation, at least for the first few weeks
- Take out health and travel insurance
- Prepare a realistic budget for the first months
- Make copies (paper and digital) of all your important documents
- Buy your plane ticket with the start of term in mind

The first days
- Register with the municipality (commune) where you live within the required time
- Complete your enrolment at the institution
- Open a bank account
- Join a health insurance fund (mutuelle)

The first weeks
- Get a student public transport pass
- Find your institution's student support service
- Learn the student work rules before looking for a job
